Job overview

We are looking to appoint contracted Shift Supervisors for the Out-of-Hours Service across the three counties, which is based at  Withybush General Hospital.  

The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day operational supervision of the Out of Hours Service across Hywel Dda University Health Board, working in partnership with clinical and operational colleagues to ensure the safe, effective and high-quality delivery of services.

This  role will  also include an element of additional flexible working, to provide cover for annual leave and sickness.  While supervising the non-clinical team, you will work closely with the clinical team to ensure service is provided across the Hywel Dda University Health Board.

Main duties of the job

You will oversee the smooth running of each Out of Hours shift by monitoring rotas and staffing levels, coordinating reception and driving staff, and acting as the first point of contact for operational issues.

You will respond to calls from patients, clinicians and stakeholders as required, monitor demand and patient flow, and ensure workloads are managed safely to avoid delays or breaches. 

This role includes using clinical and vehicle tracking systems to support timely patient care, reporting system or premises issues, supporting escalation and emergency plans, and ensuring all shift activity is accurately recorded and completed.

The Out-of-Hours Service operates from 18:15 to 08:00 during the week and 24/7 on weekends and Bank Holidays. The successful candidate will be responsible for the coordination of the Service outside of normal hours. This role will include working weekday nights 22:00 – 08:00 some weekday evening shifts 18:15 to 22:15 and weekend daytime / evening shifts.

  • Five community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery hospitals in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron Hospital in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire hospitals in Pembrokeshire
  • Two integrated care centres: Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion, and several other community settings
  • 47 general practices (six of which are health board managed practices); dental practices (including four orthodontic); 97 community pharmacies; 43 general ophthalmic practices; and 8 ophthalmic domiciliary providers
  • Numerous mental health and learning disabilities services
