Job overview

We are seeking to appoint dedicated and reliable Shift Supervisors to join our Out-of-Hours Service, based at Withybush General Hospital, supporting service delivery across the three counties.

As a Shift Supervisor, you will play a key role in the day-to-day operational leadership of the Out-of-Hours Service within Hywel Dda University Health Board. Working collaboratively with both clinical and operational colleagues, you will help ensure the safe, effective, and high-quality delivery of patient care.

You will be responsible for overseeing service performance during your shift, supporting staff, and responding to operational challenges to maintain a responsive and patient-focused service

The Out-of-Hours Service operates between 18:15 and 08:00 on weekdays, and 24 hours on weekends and Bank Holidays. The post holder will coordinate the service during operational hours and will be required to work a rota, including nights, weekends, and Bank Holidays.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the effective coordination and operational management of the Out-of-Hours Service during each shift, ensuring delivery is safe, efficient, and aligned with Health Board standards.

Key duties include monitoring staffing levels and rotas, coordinating reception and driver resources, and acting as the first point of contact for operational issues. The post holder will provide direction and support to staff on shift, ensuring service continuity and effective resolution of issues.

You will respond professionally to calls from patients, clinicians, and stakeholders, while monitoring demand, capacity, and patient flow. You will take timely action to ensure workloads are managed safely and that delays or breaches are minimised.

The role involves using clinical systems and vehicle tracking tools to support timely patient care. You will identify and report system, IT, or premises issues, support escalation processes, and contribute to business continuity and emergency planning where required.

You will ensure all shift activity is accurately recorded in line with Health Board policies and governance requirements.
