Are you ready to take your career to the next level within a dynamic and forward-thinking sonography service? We’re seeking a highly skilled and motivated Sonographer with excellent communication abilities to deliver top-quality care to our patients and support the development of our trainees.

Based within the Radiology department at Withybush General Hospital in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire; our service performs a comprehensive range of ultrasound investigations using state-of-the-art equipment, with all systems recently upgraded. Applicants must be a Registered Health Professional with an appropriate post graduate qualification in Medical Ultrasound and evidence of relevant experience. There may be a requirement to work flexible hours to meet service demands.

Main duties of the job

  • Be responsible for scanning patients and producing independent reports of these scans in line with departmental guidelines;
  • Take an active role in teaching and practical training of student Sonographers and others in training;
  • Participate in the audit and clinical governance programs with the department;
  • To communicate with patients, their relatives, and others about the purpose of the examinations and the scan results (in line with departmental guidelines).
  • To develop ones own skills and knowledge and contribute to the development of others, identifying any training needs to the Lead Sonographer;
  • To plan and prioritise ones own workload and that of that area to ensure the efficient flow of work, keeping waiting times to a minimum whilst maintaining a high standard of service delivery

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Working for our organisation

Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.

We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services.

We work in partnership with the three local authorities, as well as public, private and third sector colleagues, including our valued team of volunteers.

Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Degree or equivalent diploma
  • Case Accredited post graduate certificate or diploma at masters level in Ultrasound
  • HCPC, RCT or registration with relevant professional body eg:NMC, RCN, RCM
  • Sound Professional knowledge of imaging modalities (Eg ANC/TV scanning, Non-obstetric scanning)
  • Evidence of current CPD portfolio
Desirable criteria
  • Highly specialist training in aspects of ultrasound
  • Developed knowledge of a specialised ultrasound imaging e.g. Small parts or vascular

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post registration professional experience in a diagnostic ultrasound imaging
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of specialist ultrasound imaging techniques
  • Experience with digital/PACS enabled ultrasound equipment.

Other

Essential criteria
  • Ability to travel between sites in a timely manner
  • Flexible approach to needs of the service
Desirable criteria
  • Willing to participate in out-of-hours working
