Job overview

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to fill a Band 4 Associate Practitioner vacancy within the Blood Sciences Department at Prince Philip Hospital, Llanelli.

The post is permanent, full time (37.5 hours per week).

This is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to join the Blood Science team and work closely alongside the Biomedical Scientists to provide an effective and quality service within Biochemistry, Immunology, Haematology and Blood Transfusion. The introduction of Band 4 posts is a new development within the department to help us start to deliver our workforce plan for the future and, with this in mind, consideration will be given to staff development.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to perform a range of routine and non-routine tasks, following Standard Operating Procedures and under indirect supervision, to provide technical support to Biomedical Scientists. The tasks will include pre-analytical sample preparation, operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment, use of laboratory information systems, processing samples, instrument calibration and quality control, and the potential for some further analytical and data processing work associated with departmental developments.

Full training and competency assessment will be given in all aspects of the role upon commencement.

We are searching for an individual with excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team as well as working alone and using their own initiative.  The ability to maintain concentration whilst performing tasks with speed, accuracy and reproducibility with frequent interruptions is also important. The post would provide a key role within the department to ensure compliance with UKAS standards ISO 15189, the 2005 Blood Safety Quality, and MHRA regulations.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
