Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic registered nurse/ODP to join the team within the Endoscopy Unit at Prince Philip Hospital. 

The successful individual will work within a team assisting to deliver the highest standards of pre, peri and post-procedure care to patients undergoing a variety of Endoscopy procedures.

This busy unit can work over six days a week, offering a service to both out-patients and in-patients offering diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for adults. 

 

Main duties of the job

Endoscopy can offer support and training, to gain exceptional knowledge and skills in gastroenterology, inclusive of the anatomy and physiology of the human body, whilst assessing and treating a range of health conditions. Endoscopy undertakes a range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy, bronchoscopy and Urology.

Your day will be varied spending time with Gastroenterologists, Surgeons, Nurse Endoscopists and Bowel Screening Wales practitioners.  We offer a range of endoscopy training courses, from basic skills to advanced skills. All endoscopy staff follow a standard competency pathway with an allocated mentor and undertake training in accordance with their development needs.

This post offers the opportunity to further develop skills, such as, management skills, Bowel screening skills and specialist endoscopy skills, giving you a range of future prospects in nursing.  

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties. 

We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services. 

We work in partnership with the three local authorities, as well as public, private and third sector colleagues, including our valued team of volunteers.

  • Four main hospitals: Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth; Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen; Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli; and Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest 

  • Five community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery hospitals in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron Hospital in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire hospitals in Pembrokeshire 

  • Two integrated care centres: Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion, and several other community settings 

  • 47 general practices (six of which are health board managed practices); dental practices (including four orthodontic); 97 community pharmacies; 43 general ophthalmic practices; and 8 ophthalmic domiciliary providers 

  • Numerous mental health and learning disabilities services

  • Degree in Adult Nursing / Higher Education Diploma / Degree in Operating Department Practice

Experience
