An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Fire Safety Advisor to join our Fire Safety Team at Prince Philip Hospital, Llanelli.
The post holder will work a 3 day week along side the existing Fire Safety Advisor who currently covers 2 days.
The fire safety advisor (FSA) must be able to work very closely with the Head of Fire Safety Management (HFSM), providing a wide range of specialist advice and guidance to senior managers and staff on fire safety issues for the sites under their control. They must also work closely and effectively collaborate with fire safety advisors who are also based at the other acute sites. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring best practice levels of assurance, compliance and governance for a wide range of Fire Safety issues. The FSA will be expected to continually highlight any associated gaps or shortfalls that require appropriate action planning and managing and that they are brought to the attention of the HFSM.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for providing technical advice on a range of projects, and assist in delivering continuous improvement programmes in relation to fire safety management.
The FSA will be expected to form strong relationships with key staff, such as Hospital General Managers, Site Ops Managers and Clinical staff. They will also be expected to provide support and technical assistance in the preparation of the agenda items for the various fire safety sub groups. To which these individuals remain fully responsible for.
Other duties include:
Supporting and working closely with the members of the fire safety team, to ensure a high standard of professionalism, efficiency and effectiveness for all aspects of fire safety management.
Assessing own efficiency issues and reporting any concerns directly with the HFSM for addressing.
Ensuring that a close “teamwork” approach is continually sustained with all colleagues within the Estates, Facilities and Capital Management function.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Responsibility for the delivery of fire safety training for all staff at all sites that fall within the management remit of this role. This must be conducted in accordance with the adopted and preferred Training Needs Analysis (TNA) developed by the HFSM.
As FSA, you will be expected to undertake and keep continually up to date technical fire risk assessments for all sites within your management control, in accordance with the requirements of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. These must be completed to a highly technical standard, identifying all known risks associated with fire safety for appropriate action planning. Reporting any concerns directly with the HFSM.

Qualifications and knowledge
Essential criteria
- A relevant qualification in fire safety
- Qualified to degree level or equivalent fire safety experience, or successful attendance of a suitable fire safety course at the Fire Safety College.
- Membership of a Professional Institution such as the following: IFE, IEE, IET, I.MechE, CIBSE, IHEEM, CIOB, RICS,RIBA.
- Demonstrate the ability to undertake detailed, suitable and sufficient fire risk assessments with the healthcare sector.
- Specialist knowledge to postgraduate diploma level through short courses or equivalent experience
- Evidence of continual professional development is essential.
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development in Healthcare Estates Management
- Evidence of detailed knowledge and understanding of the entire suite of HTM’s, Building Regulations Documentation and other related estate and engineering best practice guidance documents.
Experience

- Must have acquired professional experience working in fire safety related position
Desirable criteria
- Demonstrate the use of techniques to involve a range of stakeholders in service improvements.
- Must possess experience and capability in financial management, evidencing knowledge of delivering budgets within targets
- Experience of delivering projects against agreed Application form and interview. 12 objectives of quality, cost and time.
- Demonstrate success in building, leading, motivating and developing teams.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
