Are you an enthusiastic and motivated dietitian  keen to develop your leadership skills and support the cost effective use of nutrition products across Hywel Dda University Health board.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the well-established dynamic dietetic team at Hywel Dda, which holds a high profile both within the wider therapies team and across the Health Board. We fully support continuing professional development, appraisal and supervision and actively enable this with protected sessions in individualised job plans.

You will have the opportunity to be a valuable part of the Medicines management team as well as an integral part of the health board dietetic service.

This is a key role for a lead in  dietetics involving both clinical and leadership responsibilities . This role offers a unique opportunity for someone with a passion to improve health outcomes and cost effectiveness  across Hywel Dda,  working  in a novel, exciting way with a  commitment to develop and learn. 

Main duties of the job

As the clinical  lead Dietitian for prescribing support , you will lead on the delivery of the teams objectives and help set the direction of the team and manage its day to day operation.

To support the Hywel Dda Medicines Management service to 

  • Promote  the safe, evidence based and cost-effective use of medicines
  • Provide up to date, unbiased information about medicines, treatments and care pathways
  • Support practitioners and patients to make best use of medicines
  • Minimise the harm caused by medicines
  • Develop local guidelines and care pathways to optimise the management of conditions
  • Collaborate with Secondary Care colleagues and other healthcare providers to support these aims

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.

We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services.

We work in partnership with the three local authorities, as well as public, private and third sector colleagues, including our valued team of volunteers.

Our services are provided in:

  • Four main hospitals: Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth; Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen; Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli; and Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest
  • Five community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery hospitals in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron Hospital in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire hospitals in Pembrokeshire
  • Two integrated care centres: Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion, and several other community settings
  • 47 general practices (six of which are health board managed practices); dental practices (including four orthodontic); 97 community pharmacies; 43 general ophthalmic practices; and 8 ophthalmic domiciliary providers

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • HCPC registration with a degree in Dietetics.
  • Accredited post graduate study relevant to specialist area to master's level or equivalent
  • Advanced clinical knowledge within the specialist field of medicines management dietetics acquired through specialist training or equivalent clinical experience Clinical
  • Clinical Supervisory skills training
  • Knowledge of, and ability to apply evidence-based methodology to support improvement, and service delivery.
  • Expert knowledge of clinical guidance and policy relevant to the specialist area
Desirable criteria
  • Completed formal motivational interviewing training
  • Supplementary prescriber status
  • Other professional, technical or academic qualifications which relates to Dietetic clinical practice

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Broad well established Dietetic practice experience within NHS or comparable healthcare settings .
  • Experience of working alongside pharmacists and GPs supporting medicines management pathways
  • Experience of Clinical leadership
  • Extensive multi-professional working within the NHS or equivalent healthcare setting
  • Planning and delivering education and training
  • Experience of line management, supervision and appropriate delegation to qualified and non-qualified team members.
  • Significant experience of leading multi-professional and multidisciplinary team working
  • Leading project / quality improvement / development work, with demonstrable outcomes.
  • Active engagement with student training.
  • Experience of Interpreting evidence into clinical practice.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of project management.
  • Additional clinical or health care related experience
  • Experience in research/leading multiagency projects
  • Active involvement in national work stream, professional network or specialist group
  • Leading service improvement /quality improvement
