We have a vacancy for an enthusiastic qualified Speech and Language Therapist to join our expanding Adult Team. Experience with an adult client group is essential. Based in either Prince Philip Hospital, Llanelli or Glangwili General Hospital, Carmarthen. This is an ideal opportunity for the successful therapist to develop their skills with a varied adult client group whilst working in a supportive and dynamic environment. Innovation and initiative are actively encouraged. Opportunities are available for work in both the acute and community settings. This will involve working with individuals and groups, specialist multi-disciplinary teams, supporting developments in community services, and developing and delivering training to a range of professionals, carers and volunteers.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide a Speech & Language Therapy Service for adults in the nominated locality who have communication and/or swallowing difficulties.
The post-holder will be supported to manage a caseload of adult clients, using evidence based/client-centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions in community and acute settings. They will also contribute to key service developments, both within Speech & Language Therapy, and across professions and agencies.
Manage the day to day prioritisation and administration of a specific caseload, adhering to deadlines, and advising team leader on issues of service delivery, including shortfalls and service pressures.
Plan, organise and run daily clinics/ in-patient sessions/ home visits
Provide advice to others regarding the management and care of patients with communication and/or swallowing difficulties
Organise the day to day tasks of Speech & Language Therapy Assistant(s) and volunteers

Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties. Our 12,000 members of staff provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services for around 384,000 people across a quarter of the landmass of Wales. Four main hospitals: Bronglais General in Aberystwyth, Glangwili General in Carmarthen, Prince Philip in Llanelli and Withybush General in Haverfordwest;
Seven community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron, Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire Hospital Health and Social Care Resource Centre in Pembrokeshire;
48 general practices (six of which are managed practices), 47 dental practices (including three orthodontic), 99 community pharmacies, 44 general ophthalmic practices (43 providing Eye Health Examination Wales and 34 low vision services) and 17 domiciliary only providers and 11 health centres;
Numerous locations providing mental health and learning disabilities services;
Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Degree in Speech & Language Therapy or equivalent
- Registered with Health Professional Council
- Registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
Desirable criteria
- Relevant post graduate courses
- Active membership of relevant SIG
Experience
Essential criteria
- Undergraduate experience with a range of acquired disorders relevant to the post, which may include dysphagia, asphasia, voice, head and neck cancer, and degenerative neurological disorders
- Experience of working with the MDT, families and carers
- Experience of working with support workers and/or volunteers
Desirable criteria
- Postgraduate experience with a range of acquired disorders relevant to the post, which may include dysphagia, asphasia, voice, head and neck cancer, and degenerative neurological disorders
- Experience of working with groups of adults
- Experience as a speech and language therapist working in an adult service
Language Skills
Desirable criteria
- Welsh Speaker (Level 1)
