Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Assistant Psychologist to join our newly developed Adult Diabetes Pump Technology Service. This role offers involves working in an innovative multidisciplinary team (MDT) including Specialist Nurses, Dieticians, Healthcare Assistants, and a Clinical Psychologist.

Working under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist, you will support the delivery of psychologically informed care to adult patients using insulin pump technology. The role includes contributing to assessments for pump initiation, supporting ongoing engagement with therapy, and helping young people who are already using pump technology transition from paediatric to adult services.

Supervision and development are core to the role, with regular support provided by the Clinical Psychologist. You’ll be encouraged to bring your own ideas to service delivery and patient engagement, contributing creatively to a team that values innovation, inclusion, and psychologically informed care.

This is a flexible, blended role with both remote and in-person working, and regular supervision and development opportunities. We’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic, proactive, and passionate about applying psychology in physical health settings.

Main duties of the job

As an Assistant Psychologist, you’ll support the delivery of psychologically informed care for adults using insulin pump technology. You’ll contribute to assessments for pump initiation, help patients maintain engagement, and support young people transitioning from paediatric to adult services.

Under supervision, you’ll assist with clinical screening, data collection, and psychological formulation. You’ll help develop psychoeducational resources, contribute to group sessions, and participate in MDT discussions and clinics. A key part of your role will be selecting and scoring outcome measures, maintaining a database, and supporting audit and evaluation.

Your insights will help inform service quality, and you’ll contribute to the regular review of processes and outcomes. You’ll also support the wider Health Psychology team by sharing learning from the pump pathway and helping keep colleagues informed of technological and psychological developments.

We’re looking for someone with excellent communication and organisational skills, who is curious, reflective, and confident working in a team. Experience in physical health or MDT settings is welcome but not essential.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
