Job overview
Come and join our fantastic Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) service! This is a great opportunity to develop your skills in both a community and inpatient setting supported by a highly experienced 8C Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist, an Assistant Psychologist and other members of the team.

We are a community based service, supporting people to deal with the impact of an acquired brain injury (ABI). The Cheshire part of the team is approximately 20 years old and continues to develop, working in partnership with other services within the locality. The Wirral part of the team was developed 13 years ago and also provides an inreach neuropsychology service to the rehabilitation unit at Clatterbridge Hospital. The team also has links with the local Doctorates in Clinical Psychology to provide lectures, mentoring of trainees and placements. On-going continuing professional development is not only supported but encouraged with practitioners supported to develop their own interests within neuropsychology/ABI. You will be joining a neuropsychology led service with, two 8C Consultations Clinical Neuropsychologists, two 8B Clinical Psychologists specialising in Neuropsychology, a 8A Clinical Psychologist and two Assistant Psychologists.
The successful candidate will be supported to develop their skills in all areas and support to develop their skills to move from band 7 to band 8A under a structured development process.
Main duties of the job
To provide neuropsychology services to people who have experienced an ABI, primarily a stroke and their families. The post involves work on the local inpatient stroke rehabilitation ward and community based neuropsychological rehabilitation. We are looking for a confident, friendly individual who has experience of working with people after an ABI or a passion to work with this client group and the drive to support them in managing the aftermath of such a life changing event. You will be required to provide neuropsychological assessment and interventions. The successful candidate will have experience in working within a multidisciplinary setting and helping to guide the person’s rehabilitation. They will have experience in delivering individual therapy that is adapted to the needs of people after an ABI, and helping non-psychology team members work with people who have experienced an ABI through consultation and joint working.
The role involves blended working, including face to face sessions, remote sessions via telephone and video and working from home. It will also involve travelling around the Wirral.
*** The role is suitable for third year trainee who would be appointed to the band 7 role and supported to develop to 8A or an experienced band 7 practitioner looking to develop in their career or someone already in an 8A role who would like to widen their experience. ***

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Doctoral or other HCPC recognised qualification in Clinical Psychology. Knowledge to include: models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, 2 or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology
- Current HCPC registration
- Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
- Training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and or other fields of psychology
- To have or working towards achieving the British Psychological Society’s Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology or further training / course attendance in relevant areas of psychological practice or at least desire to do so
- Evidence of further training, course attendance in relevant areas of neuropsychological practice
Knowledge & Expertise
Essential criteria
- Working as a qualified applied Clinical Psychologist within a multidisciplinary team context across the 16+ age group with a range of clinical severity and across a range of care settings
- Exercising full clinical responsibility for clients’ psychological care within the context of multidisciplinary team.
- Experience in teaching and training other health and social work professionals
- Training and experience of supervising assistant Psychologists and other Psychological Practitioners and/or MDT colleagues in psychological approaches.
- Highly developed skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management.
- Highly developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing complex, highly technical and/or sensitive information to clients, carers and other agencies
- Highly developed skills in providing information to other groups both professional and non professional
Desirable criteria
- A good working knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised neuropsychological rehabilitation, including ways of working with people with complex disability in a rehabilitation setting
- A good working knowledge of legislation in relation to ABI/stroke client group and mental health
- Experience of liaison with other health and social care professionals
- Experience of providing teaching and training
- Experience of contributing to policy and service development.

- Use of a wide range of psychological and neuropsychological assessments and treatments of ABI/stroke clients across a range of community settings
