We have an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join the established and high performing inpatient team on Mulberry Ward, Macclesfield
This post is ideally suited to: A dual CCT holder in General Adult and Old Age Psychiatry, Consultant with a CCT in Old Age Psychiatry with knowledge with adult psychiatry, Consultant General Adult Psychiatrist with a strong interest in later life and complex presentations.
Mulberry Ward operates as an ageless acute inpatient ward, supported by experienced consultant colleagues across General Adult and Older Adult Psychiatry. The post holder will work closely with another Consultant General Adult Psychiatrist, ensuring shared clinical decision making, peer support, and resilience within the medical workforce.

Main duties of the job
Provide comprehensive psychiatric care and act as Responsible Clinician (RC) for the patients within the ward- average of 13 patients
Lead a multidisciplinary team that includes junior trainees, psychologists, occupational therapists, nurses and pharmacists.
Ensure timely, evidence-based clinical decision-making and patient-centred care.
Collaborate closely with the Home Treatment Team and Community Mental Health Teams to ensure continuity across the acute care pathway.
Take shared responsibility with the Ward Manager for clinical governance, risk management, and service improvement on the ward.
Contribute to the design and delivery of safer, modernised inpatient pathways
Participate in incident reviews, audits and quality improvement initiatives.
Provide teaching and supervision for medical trainees and multidisciplinary staff, fostering a positive learning culture.
Join the East Locality Cheshire consultant on-call rota (1:13) and participate in cross-cover arrangements as needed.

Essential criteria
- MB BS or Equivalent medical qualification
Desirable criteria
- Qualifications or higher degree in medical education, clinincal research or management
- MRCPsych
- Additional clinincal qualifications
Eligibility
Essential criteria
- Fully Registered with the GMC with a licence to practice at the time of appointment
- included on the GMC Specalist Register OR within six months
- Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
- Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment
Desirable criteria
- n good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
Clinical Skills, Knowledge & Experience

- Excellent knowledge in specialty
- Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge

- Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
