Job overview

We are seeking a caring and compassionate, highly skilled and motivated dentist to join the Community Dental Service (CDS) at East Cheshire NHS Trust. The is a fantastic opportunity to make an impact on the oral health of individuals with special care needs & children requiring routine exodontia with the adjust of additional treatment modalities.   

The successful candidate will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality dental care in a variety of settings including clinics, care homes, and domiciliary environments. This role offers a unique blend of clinical challenge, engagement and professional development.

Main duties of the job

The role of the CDS Dentist is to provide a comprehensive range of dental treatment and oral care, using a variety of modalities including local anaesthetic, familiarisation techniques, relaxation techniques and sedation for special care patients and paediatric exodontia patients, who meet the criteria for acceptance for treatment within our service. 

The role includes working flexibly as part of an established team, playing an active role in audit, service development and patient care. To work across clinic locations when required to support patient and service needs. Ensuring the provision of domiciliary care in residential homes, patients own homes and care facilities is carried out in a timely manner.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BDS or equivalent
  • Full GDC registration
  • VT training completed
  • Inclusion on the NHS England performer lists – performer number
Desirable criteria
  • Certificate/diploma in Conscious Sedation for Dentistry
  • Post graduate qualification

Knowledge & Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent demonstrable clinical skills including routine exodontia and simple surgical exodontia
  • Firm knowledge base and understanding of consent to treatment, the mental capacity act, GDPR
  • Immediate life support annual training
  • Understanding the role of the salaried dental services (CDS)
  • Understanding of safeguarding children & vulnerable adults
Desirable criteria
  • Delivery of inhalation sedation
  • PILS training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Prioritisation & management of workload
  • Delivery of oral care & dental treatment within templated appointment times
  • Working with special care patients
  • Experience of working as part of an established dental team/service
  • Explaining diagnosis, treatment options and care to patients and carers
  • Training of individuals – local clinical basis
Desirable criteria
  • Delivery of treatment with inhalation sedation
  • Minor oral surgery experience
  • Working within a hospital or community dental service setting
