This role includes Portering and Basic Security duties.  Porters move people and items around a hospital site.

Basic Security Service includes an Open and close function as well as supporting the site Security Officer with Parking. 

This support grade role will work in a dual role. This means that you will be expected to support Porter the porter and security role, based in Victoria Infirmary Northwich.

Main duties of the job

You would be ;

  • Using special handling techniques to move expensive, specialist medical equipment from one part of the hospital to another.
  • Transporting medical supplies, such as oxygen cylinders, and collecting and returning them when they are empty.
  • Transporting general clinical waste and hazardous materials.
  • Delivering some supplies to  departments.
  • Assisting the site security officer with car park management.
  • Providing an open/close service.

You will be a part of the Security team within the facilities department, based at VIN and will have contact with clinical and non-clinical staff. You could work with nurses, operating department practitioners,  healthcare assistants, housekeepers and other security staff.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Provide a basic security support service to protect and act in a manner that helps in maintaining a safe and crime free environment.
  • Patrol and manage, as instructed, the car parking facilities at Victoria Infirmary Northwich.
  • To provide an open and close service in collaboration with the VIN security Officer and Trust Security Team at Leighton Hospital
  • Report and log incidents of crime and violence.
  • Ensure that all policies and procedures of the Trust which affect the security of their property and the safety of employees and patients are read, understood, and carried out.
  • Assist the Security Officer with Car Park management. 
  • To provide a Portering service in public, patient and staff areas. To follow NHS guidance and work to  the requirements of NHS standards, liaising with departmental and ward managers, housekeepers sand supervisors to deliver a patient focused service

SERVICE DELIVERY

  • Out of normal working hours, check the external doors and ground floor windows of premises to ensure they are secure.
  • Protect buildings, along with their contents, from fire damage by patrolling, exercising vigilance, raising the alarm and calling the Fire Brigade when fire is discovered or reported, reporting fire hazards to the Fire, Health and Safety Manager and Head of Department concerned.
  • Receive any lost property reports and accept any found property for safe keeping, keeping a register of any found property.
  • Exercise constant vigilance to detect any potential hazard likely to endanger patients, visitors or staff.


To provide a porter service in all patient, public and staff areas
To transport patients notes from and to  departments as requested.
To maintain entrances and exits to the premises so that they are free from litter, leaves etc.
To transport and replace medical gas cylinders for wards and departments
To direct patients and visitors around VIN and help with patient, visitor enquiries
To collect and distribute goods within VIN.
