Join our team and support our vision of delivering the right care first time, every time.

Job overview

To provide safe, high-quality care for acute unscheduled medical admissions within the Medical Admissions Unit, and Same Day Emergency Care Unit (SDEC).

Working alongside current four Consultant Acute Physicians at East Cheshire, this post will have management and clinical responsibility for the patients on the Medical Admissions Unit (MAU). The acute medical number of admissions ranges between 25 - 30 per day. The Acute Physician sees new admissions until 8pm (Monday to Friday), and each acute physician covers Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) on a rota basis until 8pm (Monday to Friday).

This will include overseeing the medical take, performing post-take ward rounds, making specialty referrals, caring for short-stay in patients for up to 48 hours on the MAU, facilitating timely discharge and follow up plans.

The newly appointed Acute Physician will be required to cover SDEC also. On Fridays, the on-call physician will then cover SDEC from 5-8pm. The on-call physician also does post-take ward rounds during the weekend, except on Mondays when this is undertaken by the Acute Physicians. With the appointment of a new fifth Acute Physician, all post take ward rounds, including outliers, will be done by the Acute Physician.

Hours per week: 11 PA's

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have clinical and managerial responsibility, along with the other Consultant Acute Physicians, for the Medical Admissions Unit (MAU).

In addition, he/she will support the A&E department with the assessment of patients with acute medical problems.
