**This position is open to staff working at the Trust in the ‘ECT Family’ this includes current East Cheshire NHS Trust employees, bank staff, ISS staff and volunteers at the Trust.** 

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and driven Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join the Adult Speech and Language Therapy Team at Macclesfield District General Hospital. 

You will join our forward thinking and highly experienced team to deliver quality care to patients with communication and swallowing disorders in a general community and outpatient setting. Patients will be seen in outpatient clinic, their own home, care home or virtually.  We offer a dysphagia rapid access service where patients are seen in a timely manner in order to reduce hospital admissions.  You will have experience of working with adults with a range of complex long term conditions and be competent in the assessment and management of dysphagia and communication disorders. 

Enthusiastic and motivated, you will be confident liaising with a range of health care professionals.   You will be innovative and able to contribute to the development of the Speech and Language Therapy Service.  Previous experience of working with patients in a community setting are essential.  The successful applicant must also have completed their dysphagia post graduate competencies. 

Hours per week: 22.5

Main duties of the job

To work as an autonomous clinician to provide specialist speech and language therapy to a high standard through appropriate assessment, and accurate analysis and clinical reasoning in order to interpret, diagnose as appropriate, set goals and provide treatment for patients with a range of complex neurological, head and neck and long term conditions delivering therapy in the most appropriate environment for the patient e.g. in-patient wards, outpatient clinic, home, nursing homes.

To use specialist knowledge and skills to contribute to the multidisciplinary case management to ensure appropriate pathways of care and communication via liaison and referral to other agencies as required embracing neighbourhood team philosophies.

To support and contribute to the operational delivery of specialist services and the development of initiatives, ensuring consistent service delivery with other clinical specialist services.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • HCPC (Health and Care Professional Council) registration
  • Relevant professional degree /diploma
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of a relevant professional body

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Post registration knowledge which is relevant to the specialist area and evidenced by CPD (Continuing Professional Development)
  • Awareness of the national and local priorities and changing trends in specialist area.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Advanced communication and listening skills
  • Ability to lead junior colleagues

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Proven post registration experience, some of which is in a relevant setting / associated area.
  • Experience of contributing to the teaching and mentoring of staff & members of the MDT.

Specific Job Requirements

Essential criteria
  • Proven post registration experience of working with patients with a range of neurological and long term conditions.
  • Post basic qualifications in dysphagia or equivalent knowledge and experience
