Job overview
This new exciting role is a great opportunity for development within the transfusion team. We are looking for someone with a passion for high standards a keen eye for detail, and an interest in blood transfusion. Working closely with the transfusion practitioner, this new role will be an excellent opportunity for you to expand your skills and knowledge within this specialist area whilst also gaining valuable teaching and leadership experience.
This specialist nurse post will support the transfusion practitioner with education and training, incident investigation, risk management, service improvement, clinical audit and provide specialist transfusion advice. The role will promote regulatory and statutory requirements that impact on transfusion practice and support compliance with local and national guidelines.
Excellent communication and presentation skills are required along with teaching experience, as this role will be working with all levels of staff within the acute hospital setting. The post holder will be required to perform multi-professional training, presentations and competency assessments as the main part of the role.
Hours per week: 15

Main duties of the job
In line with the job description:
- To promote and monitor the safe and appropriate use of blood components and blood products in line with national and local guidelines.
- To plan and deliver Trust wide education and competency assessment with various roles of staff.
- To work closely with the laboratory team to ensure unit traceability in line with blood safety and quality regulation.
- To investigate transfusion incidents and near misses.

Essential criteria
- NMC (Nursing & Midwifery Council) Registration
- Extensive eperience in Blood Transfusion practice
- Mentoring or assessing qualification
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of Continual Professional Development
- Teaching qualification e.g. PG Cert (Post graduate Certificate)
Knowledge & Skills
Essential criteria
- Speciality knowledge in appropriate use of blood components and experience of use in clinical practice.
- Understanding of patient blood management.
- Involvement in audit and quality programmes.
- Demonstrates evidence of developing innovative practice and is a proactive supportive change agent
- Knowledge of and/or involvement in clinical risk management issues.
- Excellent presentation skills

- Experience of incident investigation
- Proficient computer skills in Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
