Job overview
**This position is open to staff working at the Trust in the ‘ECT Family’ this includes current East Cheshire NHS Trust employees, both NHSP and ECT bank staff, ISS staff and volunteers at the Trust. Unfortunately, we cannot accept applications from applicants not listed within these groups.**
This is an exciting opportunity to join our dedicated Critical Care team. We are a dynamic and progressive department that places patient-centered care at the heart of everything we do.
We have a Charge Nurse secondment within our busy Critical Care Unit. This is a fantastic opportunity for a current Band 5 ICU nurse to gain leadership experience and take the next step in their career.
Hours per week: 37.5

Main duties of the job
As an expert Critical Care Nurse with the appropriate skills to effectively manage the Critical Care Unit on a daily basis, you will also be responsible for the assessing, planning, implementing, delivering and evaluating, skilled practical patient cantered care to the critically ill patients and their families.
As a committed and motivated individual who wishes to develop their career within Critical Care, you will be encouraged to pursue your educational needs that will be guided by our Practice Educator and supported by an individualised development pathway. This bespoke package will include the opportunity to achieve leadership skills in order to further develop your skills and knowledge.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse (Adult/Child/Mental Health) with current NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) registration.
- Evidence of continuous professional development and up-to-date portfolio.
- Teaching, assessing, or mentorship qualification (e.g., ENB 998, Mentorship Module, Practice Assessor).
Desirable criteria
- Leadership/manage ment qualification or willingness to work towards.
- Evidence of specialist training relevant to the clinical area.
Knowledge & Skills
Essential criteria
- Up-to-date knowledge of evidencebased practice and national guidance (e.g. NICE, NSF).
- Understanding of clinical governance, audit, and risk management processes.
- Knowledge of safeguarding, infection prevention and control, and patient safety standards.
- Advanced clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
- Ability to coordinate safe admission, transfer, and discharge planning.
- Strong leadership, team-building, and supervisory skills.
- Effective communication skills with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work under pressure.
- Competent in IT systems and electronic patient records.
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of budgetary processes and workforce planning.
- Knowledge of digital systems for patient flow, rostering, and incident reporting

Experience

- Significant post-registration experience within the relevant clinical specialty.
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience mentoring students or supervising junior staff
- Experience of taking charge or leading a shift
- Experience contributing to service improvement or change
- Experience using audit or reporting tools
- Experience of complaint resolution or patient liaison.
- Experience of rota management, staffing allocation, or redeployment.
- Experience of contributing to financial/resource awareness
