Job overview

Working as part of our team in a busy medium-sized Emergency Department, you will experience the entire range of the Emergency Department case mix.  We see everything!  Emergency Medicine, Acute Medicine, surgical emergencies, paediatrics, orthopaedics, obstetrics and gynaecology, ophthalmology and ENT.  We see Major Trauma and are part of the Greater Manchester Trauma Network.  We also participate in the Acute Stroke and Primary PCI network.

We will support you if you have a special interest.  We have a precedent within the Emergency Department of successfully supporting a number of colleagues through the CESR programme, provided by our colleague, Dr Bhaskar Ayinaparthi, Consultant in our department. 

You must have 9 months UK NHS experience to be able to apply.

Main duties of the job

Emergency Medicine is part of the Urgent and Emergency Care Directorate. The team has a Clinical lead who is supported by the urgent and emergency care director and operational team.

The Emergency Department (ED) is a Type 1 unit providing care for the acutely ill as well as self-referred minor injuries. The department sees approximately 55,000 patients per year. We are supported by in-patient teams from medicine, surgery, paediatrics and critical care. There is a co-located GP out of hours and SDEC unit for direct patient streaming.

NHS Medical and Dental salaries are set at a national level.  For new starters not already working to UK Medical and Dental terms and conditions of service will be appointed to the minimum paypoint.  The starting salary paypoint can only be increased when there is evidence of relevant, completed year’s experience in terms of nature, type and level of role.  The evidence required to increase a starting salary would be Payslips and details noted in the application form i.e. complete employment history

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
Desirable criteria
  • MRCEM (Membership of Royal College of Emergency Medicine) by time of appointment.
  • Any additional postgraduate examination.

Clinical Skills

Essential criteria
  • Eligible for full registration and hold current licence to practice with GMC
  • Have evidence of achievement of foundation competences from a UKFPO (The UK Foundation Programme Office) affiliated Foundation Programme or equivalent any time of appointment in line with the GMC standards/Good Medical Practise
  • Evidence of achievement of CT1, CT2 and CT3 ACCS (Acute Care Common Stem) Emergency Medicine competences at core trainee level by time of appointment, supported by evidence from workplace-based assessments of clinical performance (DOPs, Mini-CES, CBD, ACAT, ELSE) and Multi Source Feedback or equivalent, ARCP (Annual Review of Competency Progression) or equivalent
  • Evidence of 36 months’ training at CT1, CT2 and CT3 Level in all of the specialties that make up the ACCS (Acute Care Common Stem) and CT3 Emergency Medicine programme, but must include a minimum of 9 months in Emergency Medicine and a minimum of 3 months in all specialties other than Emergency Medicine.
  • Eligible to work in the UK.
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of experience in specialties outside Emergency Medicine.
