Looking for a new challenge? This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, forward thinking Band 6 Paediatric Nurse to become part of our Paediatric Emergency Department team.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, proactive, motivated individual who can demonstrate both a good level of communication plus organisational and clinical skills as is evidenced by previous paediatric emergency department experience. In addition our department is undergoing an exciting new refurbishment which includes the development of a designated paediatric area within the Emergency Department.

Hours per week: 37.5 (Full and part times hours considered)

Main duties of the job

  • Assessment and triage
  • To take lead responsibility with the support of the Senior Nursing team to facilitate and develop the Paediatric Team’s professional development needs to meet individual and organisational objectives.
  • To support the Senior Nursing Team in leading and co-ordinating the Emergency Department Paediatric Unit to ensure that timely and efficient assessment/treatment and discharge of patients whilst maintaining patient safety and delivering high quality care.
  • To support the Senior Nursing team in leading and co-ordinating the Paediatric Unit in the early assessment and implementation of safe discharge planning, utilising appropriate resources and referral systems.
  • Assess, plan, implement, evaluate and deliver high quality, evidence-based care, including maintaining high standards of documentation, involving the children, young people and their families throughout the process.
  • Develop and strengthen the skills of the wider Emergency Department team to ensure effective communication/clinical skills are maintained by liaising with the, Multi-Disciplinary Team, other health professionals, patients and their families/carers, leading by example.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RSCN/RN (Registered Sick Children’s Nurse/ Registered Nurse) Child Branch/RN Teaching and mentorship qualification
  • Relevant degree or working towards
  • PILS (Paediatric Immediate Life Support)
Desirable criteria
  • APLS (Advanced Paediatric Life Support) /EPALS (European Paediatric Advanced Life Support)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience as a staff nurse in ED
  • Experience of designing and delivering education to junior staf
  • Experience of using a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care
  • Experience of mentoring and assessing new staff/students
  • Familiar with appraisal/CPD (Continuing Professional Development) process
Desirable criteria
  • Involvement in Change management Implementing research into practice
