**This position is open to staff working at the Trust in the ‘ECT Family’ this includes current East Cheshire NHS Trust employees, bank staff, ISS staff and volunteers at the Trust.**

The post holder will work within the Financial Management team, providing support on a range of financial services including preparation of financial statements and analysis for Operational and Financial Senior Managers, on both a routine and ad hoc basis.

Main duties of the job

The Financial Management Assistant is responsible for assisting with the completion of the monthly reporting cycle ensuring an accurate reported position to the directorates and for the Trust as a whole.

The post holder will assist the Financial Management Reporting Manager in:

  • maintaining provision, accruals and prepayments registers and processing transactions as appropriate.
  • providing reports and trend analysis to the Senior Finance Team and the directorates.
  • maintaining key controls and reconciliations to ensure accurate close down of the ledger.

The post holder will support the resolution of ad hoc queries to the Directorates.

The post holder will provide supervision and guidance to junior finance staff within the Financial Management Team.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) Qualified
  • Educated to degree level
  • Qualified by experience
Desirable criteria
  • Studying towards an accountancy qualification (recognised by the Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies)

Specific Job Requirements

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work without constant supervision, working to tight and often challenging timescales.
  • High level of work organisation, self-motivation and drive for performance.
  • Frequent requirement for concentration when inputting data, checking and reconciling information, making calculations
  • Demonstrate willingness to challenge existing practice.

Skills, Knowledge & Competencies

Essential criteria
  • Have an understanding of financial management and financial accounting principles and procedures.
  • Evidence of planning and delivering deadlines and service on time.
  • Manage and prioritise day to day workload and meetings whilst working within strict monthly, quarterly and annual deadlines/timetables.
  • Good relationship building skills across a range of sectors and from finance staff to front line clinicians
  • Ability to communicate finance information to a range of finance and non-finance staff.
  • Proficient in the use of computerised and manual financial systems, including spreadsheets, Microsoft office and database packages.
  • Possess a robust understanding of financial systems and be able to extract, interpret, manipulate and present information in a meaningful way.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of the NHS financial regime including current accounting issues.
  • Ability to work with both clinical and non-clinical staff to produce timely and accurate data
  • Ability to work quickly to a high level of accuracy

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of using general ledger system, and any associated systems.
  • Experience of computerised financial systems.
  • Management accounting experience
  • Provision of financial information to non-finance personnel including clinicians
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in an NHS financial management department preferably in provider Trust
