Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced or recently qualified Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist to join our friendly Hand Therapy Team in East Cheshire.
 
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and dynamic Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist  with an interest in the assessment and treatment in this specialist area.
 
About the service:
 
We are an exciting, friendly team, offering specialist assessment and treatment to patients across the hospital including clinic patients and inpatients. We treat both trauma and elective patients, from the very acute stage, through to longer term rehabilitation. 
 
We work closely with our Orthopaedic Consultants, Trauma coordinators, and Orthopaedic clinic staff - including Nurses, Health Care Assistants and Plaster Technicians. 
 
We offer a comprehensive training programme, designed to build skills and confidence in a fast-paced specialist area. 
 
Hours per week: 37.5 
 
 

 

    

Main duties of the job

We are a dynamic and friendly team that work in the Orthoapedic Department, providing Hand Therapy assessment and treatment for both elective and trauma patients.

We provide bespoke splinting and fracture bracing for patients who are under the care of the Orthopaedic Consultant teams.We are mainly an out patient service  but when required do see in patients. This is a fast paced service where we see patients directly from fracture clinics to provide acute management of hand fractures when appropriate.

As a valued member of our team, you will be supported by our Advanced Clinical Specialist and Clinical Specialists to enable you to develop your skills within this area. We work as a multidisciplinary team and are supported by the Consultant Hand Surgeon and  other  Consultant Upper Limb surgeons. There is a very strong team ethic within the  Orthopaedic MDT which values therapy at its core.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • HCPC registration
  • Relevant professional degree / diploma
  • Clinical educators training
  • Attendance at degree level post graduate courses relevant to the specialist area e.g. communication, CBT, dementia or working towards this or be prepared to study at this level

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Post registration knowledge which is relevant to the specialist area and evidenced by CPD
  • Knowledge of recent NHS legislation, recommendations
  • Awareness of the national and local priorities and changing trends in specialist area

Specific Job Requirement

Essential criteria
  • Prior experience working in the NHS – with a broad range of NHS physical rotations Proven ability to manage complex rehabilitation issues including dementia and ensure safe and timely discharge of patients
  • Proven ability to manage complex rehabilitation issues, utilising CBT and relaxation techniques
  • Demonstrate ability for appropriate discharge of patients
