Job overview

The post holder will promote excellence and improve client care by providing support, education, and training to staff in best practices for infant feeding. With a particular focus on breastfeeding, they will act as a positive role model, demonstrating a strong commitment to advancing the Baby Friendly Initiative within the service.

Hours per week: 22.50

 

Main duties of the job

To work across all departments within Women’s and Children’s Services supporting mothers in the initiation and maintenance of breastfeeding.

To work with all Women’s and Children’s Services staff as a lead, supporting best practice in infant feeding.

To support with the implementation of Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI).

Participate in teaching and delivery of training on infant feeding issues including clinical care.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Midwife
  • Active NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) Pin
Desirable criteria
  • Additional Infant Feeding courses
  • Frenulotomy qualification
  • Educated to Masters level

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates knowledge of local and national strategies and targets related to infant feeding
  • In-depth understanding of the UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative and its implementation
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships
  • Proven experience of working within a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to manage and prioritise own workload effectively
  • Ability to delegate tasks appropriately and manage team dynamics
  • Excellent communication skills, adaptable to a range of audiences and situations
  • Proficient in accurate and comprehensive record keeping and documentation
  • Demonstrates confidence and competence in the use of IT systems and digital tool
Desirable criteria
  • Specialist Infant Feeding experience
  • Evidence of innovative practice and service improvement initiatives
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing change

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience as a Band 6 Midwife
  • Recent evidence of Continual Professional Development (CPD)
