This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and forward thinking maternity management team.  We are proud of our achievements at Macclesfield Maternity Unit. We are looking for an adaptable individual who has excellent interpersonal skills, works well as part of the multi-disciplinary team and has an ability to work under pressure, whilst moving the services forward. Applicants should be able to demonstrate previous knowledge and experience in the provision of  Intrapartum care, leadership, service development and staff management skills. This role will include split clinical and management time.

The successful candidate's portfolio will include labour ward and maternity triage; they will be expected to work closely with the existing inpatient manager (whose portfolio covers the antenatal & postnatal ward,) to ensure that the unit as a whole has a cohesive maternity management team. Experience as a LW coordinator will be advantageous to the role as the post holder will be expected to work clinically in this role.

This role also includes a senior manager on call responsibility for the maternity service. A bespoke induction package will be created to support the successful candidate to  transition to their new role.

Main duties of the job

We are looking to recruit an experienced midwife to provide a high level of visible leadership, management and clinical expertise in the maternity department and community setting.

Duties include, reporting to the Deputy Head of Midwifery/Matron to provide a high level of clinical expertise, leadership and management in the maternity department, obstetric theatre and community as required whilst supporting both the Midwifery and Ancillary staff.

Work with the senior team to provide management oversight of the unit to maintain safe operational standards.

To manage and co-ordinate staff and workload on the ante/postnatal and labour ward in the absence of the labour ward coordinator.

To manage acute obstetric emergencies in the setting in which they occur.

To work within the Clinical Governance framework to ensure higher standards of care are provided.

To participate in the on-call rota as required in the provision of the 24 hour service.

Essential criteria
  • NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) registered Midwife
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Preceptorship Certificate
Desirable criteria
  • Management or Leadership course

Knowledge & Skills

Essential criteria
  • Awareness of political issues affecting health and midwifery care
  • In depth knowledge of maternity services
  • Utilise research to inform practice
  • Knowledge of National and local prioritise Maternity Agendas

  • Budget awareness/ management

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive UK midwifery experience
  • Demonstratable experience operating in a leadership role with responsibilities
  • Excellent clinical skills and knowledge in intrapartum care
  • Experience working within the maternity triage setting
  • Evidence of involvement with service development
  • Experience in supporting and implementing National Maternity
  • Agendas
