Job overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Specialty Doctor in Obstetrics & Gynaecology to join our dynamic and supportive department. The post offers an excellent opportunity to work in a well-established service providing high-quality obstetric and gynaecological care.

The successful applicant will deliver senior medical care across obstetrics and gynaecology, including labour ward, inpatient, outpatient, and emergency services. The role involves working closely with consultants, midwives, resident doctors, and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centred care.

This post is suitable for doctors who wish to develop their skills in a supportive environment, with opportunities for teaching, audit, and service development.

Hours per week: 10 PA's

Main duties of the job

  • provide high-quality clinical care in obstetrics and gynaecology in line with local and national guidelines

  • Participate in labour ward cover, antenatal and postnatal care, and emergency obstetric services

  • Contribute to emergency and elective gynaecology, including inpatient and outpatient care

  • Take part in the on-call rota, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays

  • Work collaboratively with consultants and the multidisciplinary team, escalating concerns appropriately

  • Supervise and support junior doctors, midwives, and other healthcare professionals

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive clinical documentation

  • Participate in clinical governance, audit, quality improvement, and risk management activities

  • Engage in teaching and training of medical students and junior staff

  • Undertake appraisal, revalidation, and continuing professional development in accordance with GMC requirements

Working for our organisation

NHS Medical and Dental salaries are set at a national level.  For new starters not already working to UK Medical and Dental terms and conditions of service will be appointed to the minimum paypoint.  The starting salary paypoint can only be increased when there is evidence of relevant, completed year’s experience in terms of nature, type and level of role.  The evidence required to increase a starting salary would be Payslips and details noted in the application form i.e. complete employment history

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualifications
  • GMC registration

Eligibility

Essential criteria
  • Eligible for full registration with GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice
  • Evidence of achievement of Foundation by time of appointment in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice including:
  • Good clinical care
  • Maintaining good medical practice
  • Good relationships and communication with patients
  • Good working relationships with colleagues
  • Good teaching and training
  • Professional behaviour and probity
  • Delivery of good acute clinical care
  • Evidence of the achievement of ST4 competences in Anaesthetics or equivalent experience of 4 years working in Anaesthetics
