Job overview
**This position is open to staff working at the Trust in the ‘ECT Family’ this includes current East Cheshire NHS Trust employees, both NHSP and ECT bank staff, ISS staff and volunteers at the Trust. Unfortunately, we cannot accept applications from applicants not listed within these groups.**
The Cardio-Respiratory department at East Cheshire NHS trust is seeking to recruit a dynamic physiologist with an interest in echocardiography and training. The post includes the opportunity to complete a fully funded post graduate certificate in Echocardiography and support to complete your British society of Echocardiography accreditation.
We are a dynamic, forward thinking and friendly echo team who currently provide a wide range of services including specialist clinics. We are continuously expanding and developing the services that we offer. The department offers a comprehensive range of non-invasive Cardiac and Respiratory investigations.
Your role will include dedicated time to train in echo and consolidate your existing skills in cardiac physiology.
You will possess a degree in clinical physiology and the ability to learn and develop your skills in Echocardiography. You will need to be an innovative individual able to work autonomously whilst promoting a positive and supportive learning environment for team members and students and have excellent communication and effective leadership skills.
Main duties of the job
The Trainee Echocardiographer will already be employed by east Cheshire NHS Trust in a substantive post and will complete the echo training programme over 18 months during which time they will work through a programme of learning. In conjunction with and supported by the Designated Training Officer, the Trainee Echocardiographer will be responsible for their own progression through the training programme, completing a mixture of work based competence and experience in NHS scientific departments, completing the learning outcomes as outlined in the Curriculum Library, undertaking the complementary academic Post Graduate Certificate in Clinical Echocardiography and preparing for and completing the BSE Transthoracic Accreditation process.
The post holder will be expected to undertake all duties of a standard band 6 post including tape analysis, exercise testing, specialist echo support and mentorship of students within the department. In addition to this the trainee will undertake a range of echocardiographic scientific and clinical functions initially under supervision. A major part of the training and development will take place within a specified host NHS organisation and is integrally linked to the knowledge and applied learning that forms part of the nationally recognised BSE accreditation programme. Post holders will also be expected to undertake mandatory training as deemed necessary by their host NHS Organisation.

This is a full time post working 37.5 hours per week Monday – Friday 9am-5pm.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- A 1st or 2:1 in Cardiac Physiology (PTP) or a relevant scientific subject (examples include Pure or Applied Physics, Engineering, Biology or Human Biology, or Sports Science (if significant scientific content) or equivalent experience and appropriate underpinning knowledge and skills in cardiology. As evidenced for example by appropriate voluntary registration with the Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists or Academy for Healthcare Science.

- Has an understanding of the role of an Echocardiographer in healthcare and disease and its application in a healthcare setting.
- A committed, in depth interest in Echocardiography and its application to direct clinical care of patients in a clinical environment.
- Knowledge acquired through study and experience to formulate appropriate advice and judgements, including clinical judgements involving facts or situations that impact on patients. Have an understanding of quality control and management assurance in a science or work based context
- Ability to analyse and assess scientific, technical and medical literature.
- Good IT skills and knowledge of common computing packages for word processing, spreadsheets, presentation packages and databases.
