East Cheshire NHS trust are excited to be advertising for a motivated and adaptive Sonographer to join our friendly, hard-working supportive team.  The post will be cross site at both Macclesfield District General Hospital and the Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) located in Congleton.

The post holder will ideally have experience in  a wide range of specialties, ranging from General Abdominal, Gynaecology, MSK, small parts, head and neck,  Vascular, DVT, Obstetrics and Early pregnancy scans. Previous experience in liver stiffness measurement scanning is advantageous.

Hours per week: 23.63

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team in Imaging, liaising with all involved in providing the service, ensuring appropriate imaging, reporting, and patient management. They will provide a high professional and technical standard of ultrasound.

Our Sonographers work within departmental protocols, written in conjunction with national guidelines.  The post holder will liaise with a multidisciplinary team, including consultant Radiologists, involved in the management of patients, working alongside colleagues to ensure the day-to-day workload is managed effectively.

We have a two, purpose-built general ultrasound departments located at Macclesfield and CDC, At Macclesfield this leads off the Radiology department, with three dedicated ultrasound rooms, to be managed and staffed by Sonographers.  A fourth dedicated room for our Consultant and Registrar Radiologists is within the main radiology department, suitable for interventional and general ultrasound.

The CDC unit, has two newly built, dedicated ultrasound rooms. Located alongside an X-ray room and cardio-respiratory services.

Although we are a small department, we are a vibrant, friendly supportive team, with a Radiologist interest in ultrasound, with local expertise in drainage and biopsy. 

We have regular vascular surgeon input and provide a vascular ultrasound service including arterial and venous scans. Training in arterial work with a qualified accredited vascular scientist (AVS) is available.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Diploma of the College of Radiographers DC(R) or BSc (Bachelor of Science) Radiography, With Post-graduate Qualifications- Possession or studying for further academic qualification Diploma in medical ultrasound/post graduate diploma /post graduate certificate
  • Heath and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration
  • BSc in Midwifery with Post-graduate Qualifications - Possession or studying for further academic qualification
  • Diploma in medical ultrasound/post graduate diploma /post graduate certificate
  • Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registration
  • Accredited vascular scientist qualification with Society of vascular technology (SVT) and/or accreditation with Academy for HealthCare Scientists (AHCS)
Desirable criteria
  • Management course or qualification
  • Post graduate diploma (PgD) / Post graduate Certificate (PgC) to be from CASE Accredited institute
