Job overview

Warrington & Halton Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust's  Switchboard team provides a vital service to staff, patients and their relatives and provides a professional customer service 24/7 365 days a year. In house training will be provided to deal with all aspects of Switchboard duties. The post holder will form part of the Switchboard team, working various shifts to cover a busy hospital switchboard. 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for operating the hospital switchboard answering all incoming and outgoing calls in a timely and efficient manner. Responsible to be involved in all associated procedures within the Switchboard environment, responding to all emergency calls and alarms whilst remaining calm, concise, and polite under pressure. The post holder will be required to perform in an environment where the work pattern is unpredictable and to demonstrate flexibility with their availability.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To operate the trust switchboard and answer and connect all external & internal, incoming and outgoing calls in a polite and efficient manner.

 To activate the trust Cardiac Arrest, Fire, Security, Trauma and other emergency procedures when requested, to also test these emergency teams daily via the Trust's paging system and record responses.

To monitor and act on alarms from the trust fire panel and other alarms in the department. Report to the Estates team any alarm faults for them to action.

 Radio liaison with Security staff.

To follow all local and trust procedures

 To provide cover and arrange cover to maintain the service when situations arise out of hours.

Educated to GCSE standard or equivalent
