Job overview

Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals Trust General Medicine department provides Inpatient, Outpatient and Same Day Emergency Care services for our medically unwell patients.

Ward A8 is the General Medicine inpatient ward consisting of 34 beds and is staffed with a multi-disciplinary team of consultants, nurses, therapists, pharmacists, and a discharge facilitator.

B19 is the Cohort Ward and provides care for our patients with infections. The staff on B19 are highly trained in Infection Prevention and Control and are part of an MDT consisting of consultants, nurses, therapists, pharmacists, and a discharge facilitator.


K25 and A10 provide care for patients with a lower acuity and focus on discharging patients in the most proactive and suitable way for their needs. The ward team work closely with our Integrated Discharge Team to develop robust discharge plans that ensure our patients needs are met upon leaving the Trust.

Main duties of the job

The post is based at Warrington Hospital and the post holder is expected to assist in the development of our innovative General Medicine inpatient services. The appointee will play a key role alongside the clinical director in the development of our clinical services and directly contribute to acute and general medicine care, discharge planning and the provision of outpatient clinics. There is an option to join the acute medical consultant on-call rota and we will provide support within the job plan for any speciality interests.

 Admin and SPA time is allocated accordingly, and you would also be part of the GIM on-call rota.

Essential

Essential criteria
  • • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
  • • Experience in working in an MDT
  • • Proficiency and knowledge of providing Acute medical Care
Desirable criteria
  • • Expertise in another specialty field within General medicine – POPS, Acute medicine post take rounds, specialist clinics.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • MRCP or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • • CCT in General Medicine
  • • PhD or MD

Skills, Knowledge and Competencies

Essential criteria
  • • Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively
  • • Ability to plan strategically and to exercise sound judgements when faced with conflicting pressures
  • • Ability to teach clinical skills to medical and nursing staff and other disciplines
Desirable criteria
  • • Formal training in teaching
  • • Knowledge and experience of the application of information technology to Medicine
