Job overview
We are seeking applications for a Locum consultant ENT surgeon with a special interest in the Otology and/or Head and Neck.
The department are committed to learning and development of surgical trainees and middle grade doctors and teaching will be part of the role.
There is a robust clinical audit programme which is multi-disciplinary and occurs once per month and the post holder will be expected to lead clinical audits.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of this role include independent management of all patients under your care, in particular your area of sub specialism. This includes independent surgical management of your caseload.
The post holder will be expected to join the on call rota which is 1:4 (prospective cover) for weekdays and evenings and 1:10 for weekends which is a regional on call.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Duties of the Post
Warrington & Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust wishes to appoint a full time ENT Consultant with a
sub specialism in Otology and/or Head and Neck to provide both elective and emergency care of ENT patients.
The candidate appointed will work on both the Warrington and Halton hospital sites for both theatres and
outpatient clinics.
This is a full-time post in ENT amounting to 10 PAs.
Applicants are required to be a Registered Medical Practitioner, MBCHB or equivalent, to be fully registered with
the General Medical Council and listed on the Specialist Register or due to be registered within six months of the
date of appointment.
Responsibilities of the Post
Responsibilities for the new post will include supporting provision of emergency and elective activity in the
department. The post holder will be encouraged to develop sub-specialty interests in Head and Neck and/or
Otology which will be supported by the CBU to ensure job satisfaction and sustainability of services.
The current on call system has a commitment, of 1:4 (prospective cover) rota for weekdays and evenings at
Warrington, and 1:10 rota for weekends (combined rota with Arrowe Park Hospital & Countess of Chester
Hospitals) for ENT emergencies. Long term plans are in place to propose a change to the on-call commitments to
1:4 weekday and weekends to cover Warrington and Halton only, once fully established with 4 ENT Consultants.
The post requires clear vision, initiative, flexibility, and the ability to lead and coordinate the team. As well as the
elective and emergency work, the successful applicants will be expected to develop their subspecialty interest and
complement the sub-specialty interests of the existing consultants whilst meeting the needs of the local population.
The appointee will be responsible for:
• Providing advice on complex clinical problems based on interdisciplinary principles. He/she should provide
second opinions for concerned patients at the request of consultant colleagues.
• Providing clinical care to patients referred to them.
• Working with colleagues to provide effective clinical leadership for all staff in the service.

• Take an active part in continuing medical education including providing clinical training for junior staff and
undergraduate students.
• Participate actively in audit and will be encouraged to pursue research and education activities.
• Be encouraged to participate in Trust, Regional and National developments to facilitate modernisation of the
speciality and enhance the profile and capability of the organisation for the benefit of patients and staff.
• Be encouraged to contribute to the management of the department with the objective of the continued
improvement of the service.
• The successful applicant would be expected to take part in the MDT meetings on a weekly basis should
his/her specialist interest deem this necessary.
Service Development
Activities will include theatre sessions, outpatient clinics, and associated administration and SPA time. To maintain
SPA, 2 personal audits per year will be expected. In addition to CPD, teaching, research appraisal & assessment of
trainees outside of DCCs will be expected.
