Rotational Midwife

NHS AfC: Band 6

Job overview

We are seeking enthusiastic and dynamic midwives to join our skilled and highly motivated team at Warrington Hospital.

The successful candidates will have completed their preceptorship and will rotate across all areas of our maternity service, including the Birth Suite, Antenatal/Postnatal Ward, The Nest (Midwifery-Led Unit), and Maternity Triage.

Our maternity services were recently rated "Good" by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), reflecting our ongoing commitment to providing safe, high-quality care and ensuring a positive experience for the families we support.

We firmly believe that our staff are our greatest asset. As such, we are dedicated to fostering a positive, inclusive, and supportive working environment where every team member is valued and empowered to thrive.

Main duties of the job

The successful post-holder will rotate across all areas of the maternity unit, delivering care throughout the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal periods. This includes working within the Birth Suite, Antenatal/Postnatal Ward, The Nest (MLU), and Maternity Triage.

You will be expected to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care, ensuring it is tailored to the individual needs of women and their families.

Flexibility is essential to ensure safe and effective care delivery across the unit. You will work as part of a supportive and well-functioning multi-disciplinary team, upholding high standards of care at all times.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating holistic care, working autonomously in line with Trust guidelines and the Midwife’s Sphere of Practice.

  • Working collaboratively with the wider multi-disciplinary team and external agencies to meet the needs of women, birthing people, and their families.

  • Actively involving families in the planning and delivery of care, promoting informed choice and personalised care.

  • Delivering safe, effective, and compassionate care in line with our Trust values.

  • Communicating clearly and professionally with patients, families, and colleagues.

  • Providing accurate, evidence-based clinical advice to support informed decision-making.

  • Responding effectively to emergency situations, demonstrating sound clinical judgment and timely intervention.

Working for our organisation

Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a caring and compassionate organisation that is both ambitious and innovative. We are committed to delivering the best outcomes for our patients and providing a positive experience of our staff.  We aspire to be outstanding for our patients, our communities and our staff and are committed to being a great place to receive healthcare, work and learn.

Straddling the neighbouring boroughs of Warrington and Halton we are part of the Cheshire and Merseyside Integrated Care system.  Our hospitals are ideally situated to meet the growing healthcare needs of the 330,000 population of these boroughs.

Warrington Hospital is home to our emergency, critical care and maternity services, Halton Hospital is focused on elective procedures and the Runcorn Urgent Treatment Centre, although many services are offered at both sites and in community hubs.

A CQC-rated ‘good’ organisation with ‘outstanding’ features, we are working towards university hospital status, having achieved teaching hospital status in 2019.

Our workforce of nearly 5,000 across both sites comprises more than 50 nationalities. We strive to be an equal, diverse and inclusive employer, which is recognised as a pioneer in its equality, diversity and inclusion work. The Trust is proud to have achieved numerous external accreditations and is working towards achieving the Anti-Racist Organisation Framework, recognising the importance of anti-racism in all that we do.
