Job overview
Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals wish to appoint a Specialty Doctor in Ophthalmology. The successful candidate will join a team of 7 Consultants. They will be based at Warrington Hospital but may be expected to undertake clinics at the Halton Health Hub site in the future.
Main duties of the job
The main commitment of the post will be to manage general and acute Ophthalmology patients and the candidate will be expected to deliver appropriate sub-specialty care as needed. This will include medical retina care.
Exposure to sub-specialty clinics will be included in the job plan but the main part of the responsibilities is managing general and acute ophthalmology patients.
Laser and theatre sessions will be part of the role for those with adequate experience. Further training and support will be given to achieve the necessary experience.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Responsibilities for this post will include:
1. Supporting outpatient clinics including new and follow up general ophthalmology and emergency eye care clinics. This includes Primary Care, Emergency Care and Retinal Primary Care.
2. To take full, independent responsibility for the management of acute and medical emergencies.
3. In addition to this post this will include support to sub-specialty clinics which will be confirmed during the job plan discussion.
4. Laser sessions will be part of the job plan. This will be medical retina related.
5. Theatre session will be discussed at interview and may be possible, dependent on experience and theatre capacity.
6. The successful applicant will have a job plan meeting with the Clinical Lead and CBU Manager.
Clinical duties will include:
1. Primary Care Clinics (General, Retina, Cataract) where the candidate should be able to formulate treatment plans for general ophthalmology patients, seek sub-specialty advice where necessary and list for surgery.
2. Appropriately manage patients attending the emergency eye clinic.
3. Sub-specialty clinics (to be confirmed in job plan) mainly medical retina, glaucoma oculoplastic and paediatrics.
4. Independent laser clinics.
5. Potential for cataract surgery/minor ops (to be discussed at interview).
PA allocation is in keeping with Specialty Doctor job planning guidelines. Flexibility in job plans will be considered to achieve maximum work life balance.

- Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining CCT in Ophthalmology
