Consultant Radiologist with an interest in Breast & Gynae Imaging

NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant

Job overview

This post is for a substantive Consultant Radiologist with a sub-specialty interest in breast and gynaecology imaging.  This is a whole-time post offering an outstanding opportunity for a highly motivated Doctor to join a dynamic team of 20 Consultant Radiologists delivering multidisciplinary acute care in Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals.

The successful applicant will be required to participate in the general/cross-sectional reporting in the departments at Warrington and Halton Hospitals. There will be an on-call commitment (current rota is 1:17). The Consultants are second on-call.  The initial contact for on-call imaging is provided by a central on-call Hub staffed by regional STs supported by an integrated RIS (Wellbeing) and PACS - Carestream Global Worklist.  This service is provided on weekdays from 5pm to 9am and during weekends.  The on-call Radiologist is on site on Saturdays from 9am-4pm and on Sundays from 9am to 1pm. There will be additional opportunity to lead or represent the breast and gynaecology services with a view to us expanding and developing the service at Warrington

Applicants will be required to achieve CCT within six months of interview.  They will be required to hold Membership of the Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) (UK or equivalent qualifications) and to be fully registered with the General Medical Council.

Main duties of the job

The Radiology Department has an extensive range of imaging facilities to support the work across 2 sites including Interventional Radiology, Ultrasound, CT/MR, DEXA, Dental & Cardiac Catheter Suite. There are 5 multi-slice CT Scanners, 4 MRI Scanners, as well as a comprehensive ultrasound & plain film service. WHH is part of the Cheshire & Merseyside Radiology Collaborative On-call Network. The collaboration enables on-call CT reporting to be performed by the on-call Hub, staffed by the trainees in the region with Consultant addenda provided following checking the next morning to maintain safe standards.  The radiology workload and complexity within the department has increased markedly and is continuing to do so. We strive to create excellent opportunities for a great work-life balance with all Consultants having access to full PACS homeworking stations to support flexible & agile working.  The Trust is actively involved in Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching in association with the University of Liverpool and up to 10 specialist trainees are attached to the department. All Consultants are involved in supervision & training of trainees.   The department's Consultants operate very much as a team and are looking for colleagues who are keen to work in this environment.
