Senior Clinical Fellow in ICU

NHS Medical & Dental: Senior Clinical Fellow

Job overview

We have an incredible opportunity for 2 senior clinical fellows posts at a 6 month fixed term with the potential to extend to 12 months.

The post is suitable for individuals seeking a period of experience in Critical Care Medicine to develop their knowledge, skills and CV.

The post is suitable for individuals from a medical, anaesthetic or emergency medicine background and would be suited to a candidate looking to gain experience commensurate with stage 1 training.

The appointee will work across the Critical Care Unit and hospital wards. The role will combine working alongside and supporting consultant and trainee colleagues in Critical Care.

The post holder will join the 2nd on-call 1:8 covering the critical care unit and ward referrals.

The 1:8 2nd on-call rota covers seven days a week including long days and night shifts.

Main duties of the job

You will work on the 1:8 second on-call rota working normal days, long days and night-shifts.

Teaching/SIM: Working with the Faculty Tutor, SIM lead, postgraduate training team and nurse practice educators, you will design and deliver a multi-disciplinary weekly teaching session for all grades of trainees, medical students, nursing, and allied health professionals.

Focussed Echocardiography: Working with our FUSIC (Heart) lead you will learn Echo skills and complete FUSIC (Heart) accreditation.  You will help to set up teaching and training of other medical staff on the unit. Our aim is that bedside Echo performed by our clinical team will become embedded in our day-to-day practice on ICU and this post will help achieve this.

Research: Working with our Research Lead and ICU research team you will gain experience in the delivery of clinical research on the ICU.  You will have the opportunity to complete the NIHR Associate PI programme and work with the team on screening, recruiting and consenting for the clinical trials underway on the unit.  Research activity is currently undergoing a massive expansion on the critical care unit and this post will contribute greatly to this.

Management: Working with Consultants on the unit who have Trust Management positions, you will have the chance to experience medical management.
