Job overview
AMU is a fast paced working environment , We are a multidisciplinary team working together to provide high standard of care for our patients.
As a porter, you will carry out a full range of portering duties within the hospital, which will include the efficient transfer of patients, transportation of equipment, ward/department-based furniture, pathology specimens, linen, and waste.
It would be desirable that you have previous experience in a Porter role.
Main duties of the job
Main tasks and responsibilities
- To work collaboratively within Clinical Business Unit (CBU)/ Urgent and Emergency Care (UEC)
- Carry out the movement of patients from department to department using wheelchairs trolleys or beds.
- Assist nursing staff with the movement of patient beds.
- Carry out the delivery of Pharmacy Supplies and collection of Pharmacy boxes from Wards and departments.
- Ensure routine tasks are completed such as the portering of pathology samples including the collection of blood/blood product.
- Basic security duties.
- Collect patient case notes on request, ensuring the correct notes are collected.
- Ensure domestic waste, clinical waste and soiled linen is collected, transported and stored in accordance with procedure.
- Transport Oxygen cylinders to wards on request, checking the gauges beforehand.
- Take delivery of oxygen cylinders and ensure they are stored correctly.
