Consultant Radiologist
Consultant
Job overview
Applications are invited for the post of consultant radiologist. The expansion of the department, accelerated by the opening of Community Diagnostic Centres, has provided the capacity to increase our consultant numbers. The role involves integrating into well-established teams but also to develop, with support, new areas of interest. A contribution to the department’s general work is expected but most subspecialist interests can be accommodated. The ethos of the department is to provide an excellent patient experience through team work, both internally and with our clinical colleagues.
The Radiology service encompasses the departments at James Cook University Hospital and the Friarage Hospital. As part of the Teesside Community Diagnostic Centre collaboration there are also scanners at the Stockton Hub and Redcar Hospital spoke site. We also provide imaging, plain film and ultrasound, at five smaller units across the region.
Main duties of the job
There are over 300 people working within the department. These include 21 consultant radiologists, 15 radiology SpRs, 120 radiographers, 40 advanced practitioners and 13 nurses.
The combined imaging facilities consist of 8 CT scanners (2 dual source), 6 MRI (including a 3T), 17 ultrasound rooms, 3 fluoroscopy rooms and 2 hybrid endovascular suite. There is also an on-site PET-CT, SPECT-CT and gamma camera.
The Centre has its own four bed and two recliner Day Unit with a supporting team of skilled nurses and radiographers to support patient intervention and diagnostic procedures.
Our team of Consultant Radiologists work together and closely with other clinical colleagues. Weekly MDTs and clinical meetings are held across all specialties to promote best practice and patient outcomes. We are inviting applications for an enthusiastic and skilled colleague to join this team and help expand and develop the Radiology service.

James Cook is unique within the UK, for a hospital of its size, in having all its major specialties on a single site. The Trust is a teaching centre for under and post graduate medical education and has a Radiology registrar training programme.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
