Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who must have Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or equivalent qualification in Gynaecological Oncology and be registered in GMC’s specialist register or be within six months of obtaining this at the time of interview, to join our team of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and two sub-specialist consultant Gynaecological Oncologists. This is a permanent, replacement post following retirement of a third sub-specialist consultant.

Main duties of the job

There are presently three Consultants in Gynaecological Oncology working in the North Wales Gynaecological Cancer Centre. The proposed timetable for the new Consultant (see below) is a replacement for one of our existing consultants who is retiring.

The post will be based in Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor. The surgical cancer centre provides an on call service for the gynaecological cancer patients each week. We plan to each cover 1:6 weekends along with our general O&G consultants. However the on-call commitments for this post does not include any general gynaecology or obstetric cover. This is allocated 1.0 sessions. Both the on call and week-end ward round commitments involve prospective cover.

There will be a commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

Knowledge/ Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC registration with Inclusion on Specialist Register of GMC or eligible for award of CCT Gynaecology Oncology within 6 months of interview
  • MRCOG or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • ALS
  • Additional relevant degree(s)

Basic Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Appropriate levels of skills and abilities expected from a properly trained consultant in gynaecological oncology
  • Good working knowledge and experience of up-to-date gynaecological oncology
Desirable criteria
  • Computer skills

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Appropriate experience in training grade posts at SpR/SR/STR leading to accreditation or CCT
  • Equivalent training accepted by College/GMC for Specialist Register (CESR)
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of audit projects
  • Evidence of research relevant to gynaecological oncology

Other Relevant Requirements
