Job overview

The Locum Consultant Physicians within Geriatric Medicine in Glan Clwyd Hospital have responsibility for managing inpatient services alongside several Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Trainee Nurse Practitioners at Colwyn Bay Hospital, Denbigh Infirmary and Holywell Community Hospital with regular outpatient clinics held at Colwyn Bay and Holywell Community Hospitals. Llandudno General Hospital has two COTE Consultants based on that site supported by a team of Advanced Nurse Practitioners and a GP trainee.

A Locum Consultant Geriatrician also provides clinical input to the community based Enhanced Care Services in North and South Denbighshire.  A researcher attached to the department has a special interest in Parkinson’s Disease and has published a significant number of papers in this area. The Movement Disorder Service is supported a Specialist Movement Disorder Consultant and three Parkinson’s Disease Specialist Nurses.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide Consultant input to 10 to 12 beds in a 24-bedded Care of The Elderly (COTE) Ward (Ward 1) in Glan Clwyd Hospital along with other consultant colleagues based in that ward. The ward is supported by one Specialty Registrar, one General Practitioner Trainee, one Internal Medicine Trainee and two Foundation Year Doctors.
  • Attend the ward’s Board Rounds to discuss patient’s management and discharge plans along with the residents and multi-disciplinary team.
  • Special interests in Frailty, Stroke and Community Interface Geriatrics will be accommodated.
  • Outpatient clinics/specialty clinic: A standard template will include two new and five follow-ups.
  • Be responsible for beds in a local community hospital shared with a Consultant Geriatrician

Qualifications and Professional Training

Clinical Experience
