Job overview

The post holder will provide specialist input for adults requiring both inpatient and community rehabilitation primarily in the East area of North Wales, however flexible working and cross cover with the other two Consultant Rehabilitation Colleagues will be key. There are currently three inpatient rehabilitation units and a locked rehabilitation ward across the region.

You will actively work with the MDT and provide clinical leadership to ensure good quality holistic care is provided.

The post holder will be clinically responsible for those patients under their care and would be expected to work within the framework of the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010.

As part of the Health Board's strategic collaboration with Bangor University, individuals with an interest in teaching and research who can demonstrate and agree a possible contribution to the School can be considered and nominated for recognition through the University's process for granting honorary titles and help to deliver our shared vision for the North Wales School of Medicine and Health.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide specialist rehabilitation and recovery service for the adult population of the East area (Wrexham & Flintshire).

You will work within the legislative arrangements of the Mental Health Measure (Wales 2010) providing medical leadership to the CRT.

The role involves Inpatient Responsible Clinician (RC) responsibilities for an 8 bedded open door inpatient rehab unit, Coed Celyn, Wrexham.  The gender mix is currently 6 male and 2 female beds.  Caseload mix includes clients with treatment resistant schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, learning disability and complex emotional needs.

The consultant is responsible for providing all the psychiatry input to the inpatient MDT, with MDT ward rounds every week and availability through the week to manage contingencies and deteriorations that arise.

You will have access to an office, full time secretarial support and IT facilities.

There is the possibility of supervising a doctor in training (CT1-ST6), but it depends on the training needs and seniority of the post holder.
