Job overview

Applications are invited for a Consultant Radiologist post with a special interest in interventional radiology in Betsi Cadwaladr University Local Health Board, North Wales.

We are very happy to discuss accommodating any other specialist interests. The post holder will be based in Wrexham Maelor Hospital, but will be part of an enthusiastic multi-disciplinary team supporting existing IR services for the North Wales region.

The successful candidate will join a friendly and enthusiastic team of eleven other consultant radiologists in this hospital and will also contribute particularly to delivering specialist interventional services including the development of interventional oncology services.  The post holder will also contribute to work in the vascular hybrid suite in Glan Clwyd Hospital.

Flexible working arrangements will be considered and discussions as to your requirements and how they could be accommodated are welcomed. An opportunity to increase sessions by agreement is possible.

We have strong links with the University of Wales, Bangor and candidates would have an opportunity to develop research links and / or teaching links with the University

Main duties of the job

10 session job plan (including 0.7 session for on call)

There may be opportunities to do further sessions

SPA – 2 sessions are available, one of which can be undertaken off site, activities to be agreed with Clinical Director.  A 3rd SPA can be discussed at job plan reviews if consultant commitments indicated.

On call – currently 1in 10,or less frequent, with prospective cover.

On call tele-radiology is available via home workstations

Second on call until 9 pm only, after which there is the availability of an out-sourcing reporting service. Saturday and Sunday is outsourced.

Radiology Specialist Registrars are usually first on-call from 5pm to 9pm Monday to Friday

Each radiologist will have responsibilities for teaching, quality assurance, and service management within their specialist areas.

The post holder will also contribute to the wider workload of the department subject to job plan discussions, including general radiology, on call rotas and teaching of radiology trainees, undergraduate students, and other hospital staff. There will be a contribution to an on-call rota which benefits from the services of an overnight outsourcing company and home tele-radiology. The introduction of a North Wales IR on-call service is also being explored.

Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration
  • On specialist Register for specialty or Specialist Registrar with CCST due within 6 months of interview date
  • FRCR or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Training and experience in interventional radiology
  • To be within 6 months of completing IR RCR curriculum or equivalent
  • Experience in cross sectional imaging
Desirable criteria
  • 6th year in interventional radiology training
  • Broad experience in general radiology
