Job overview

Successful applicants will be invited to attend a Selection Day at Carew House, Bodmin on 24 April 2026.  This will be a morning or afternoon to be confirmed.

We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and passionate Band 5 Nurse to join our team at Sowenna.

Sowenna, meaning “success” is Cornwall’s first Children and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMH) Inpatient Unit providing treatment for young people aged between 13 and 18 yrs and working collaboratively with the Community CAMHS teams, ensuring a seamless whole service approach.

Our emphasis is on providing a therapeutic environment, offering a holistic approach to treatment in a safe and supported space which promotes rehabilitation and recovery. We work with various professionals, carers and community staff to ensure effective delivery of care and a planned, safe and timely discharge.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be required to shift lead a multi-disciplinary staff team and the management and provision of quality evidence based interventions, advice, support and care for children and young people with health and social care needs and their family and carers within the clinical area.

The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing services and practices that provide high quality care and interventions and will be required to work long days/nights.

Safe and effective delivery of care will be expected alongside compliance with The Nursing and Midwifery Councils Code of Professional Conduct.

Working for our organisation

We’re an NHS community and mental health provider Trust based in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We deliver community and hospital-based care to improve people’s physical and mental health.  We also provide specialist support to people with dementia or a learning disability.

We are a people organisation and people matter to us. As part of the team, you'll help support the health and wellbeing of the people who live and visit this beautiful part of the UK.

Over 5,000 people make up the Trust. This includes doctors, nurses, therapists, plus admin and support staff.

We work in people's homes, in community clinics and bases.  Some staff work from one of our 10 community hospitals. Our aspiration is to have great people, provide great care, be a great place to work and a great partner.

Approximately 568,000 people live here. A third of people who live in Cornwall are supported by acute hospital services in Devon.  As a result, we also work closely with our partners in Devon. In the summer, and during other holidays lots of people choose to visit the area. This increases the numbers of people who use our services.
