Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Finance assistant to join our friendly and dedicated Finance team working for Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Continuing healthcare (CHC). This will be on secondment or fixed term contract until 31 December 2025. The post holder will play a key role in supporting the CHC service by providing an effective and competent level of accounts payable support in a client-focused service. If you have an AAT Intermediate qualification, currently studying for this qualification or have equivalent work experience we would welcome your application.

CHC is full of activity where caring colleagues achieve together to meet the needs of the service. You will be required to work in partnership with your colleagues, work on your own initiative and manage sensitive situations.

We can offer hybrid working which allows you to work flexibly from one of our offices and from home in line with organisational requirements. We can provide the appropriate IT equipment, however there is an expectation that you will have a suitable home environment in which to work from.

Main duties of the job

Support the Personal health budget (PHB) finance officer in collation of information for financial validation by reviewing direct payment PHBs to ensure spend is appropriate to the care plan, highlight any discrepancies and make recommendations on review outcomes.

To authorise and process high volumes of Continuing healthcare invoices. Identify errors and discrepancies and resolve complex enquiries & queries from suppliers and health colleagues.  Maintain the finance systems that support the payments of the Continuing healthcare and Funded nursing care payments to Nursing homes.

Essential criteria
  • AAT Intermediate (or equivalent NVQ level 3). Experience of working within an accounts payable setting
  • Relevant Finance experience of using computer systems and knowledge of coding structures.
  • Excellent IT skills, particularly in the use of Word and Excel and Outlook or similar email program.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of staff and external suppliers.
  • Ability to work in a team and independently
  • To respect the confidentiality of individuals and the organisation
  • Accuracy and attention to detail is pivotal
  • Able to receive and convey information accurately
