Job overview
An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, adaptable and well-motivated Medical Secretary Supervisor to join the Penwith Adult Community Mental Health Team providing secretarial support to Consultant Psychiatrists and their teams as well as supervising the medical secretarial teams at Penwith and Kerrier. The post holder should demonstrate a caring and sensitive approach to their work and be able to communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues, patients, carers, the general public and representatives from other hospitals and organisations.
This job is currently only open to people who already work for the NHS in Cornwall or the Isles of Scilly.
We are committed to supporting our dedicated staff, so only current employees of the following organisations can apply:
- Cornwall Foundation Trust
- Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust
- Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Integrated Care Board
If you do not currently work for one of these NHS organisations, your application will not be considered at this time.
Main duties of the job
To maintain confidentiality at all times and sensitivity when dealing with contentious and complex information.
Co-ordinate and organise action arising from correspondence and ensure prompt and efficient response, as required, by the Consultants and Junior Medical Support Staff.
Co-ordination with other professionals, outside Agencies, legal staff, Trust staff etc.
Responsible for up-to-date maintenance of diaries for the medical team.
Maintain clinic lists to ensure clients are seen within key target times.
Attend meetings, as necessary, take and transcribe minutes, follow actions notes and disseminate information as required.
You will be providing supervision and day to day support to the other medical secretaries that support the Community Mental Health Teams at Penwith and Kerrier.
This role will be challenging and varied, but ultimately a rewarding role that will provide an opportunity, for the right person, to become a key member of the team. A high degree of flexibility is required to meet the day-to-day challenges of the service. Excellent time management and communication skills are required as is a good sense of humour.
This would be a working on site position with possibility to work from home on occasion. There will be occasions to travel to carry out supervisions at our Kerrier site in Redruth.
Working for our organisation
We’re an NHS community and mental health provider Trust based in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We deliver community and hospital-based care to improve people’s physical and mental health. We also provide specialist support to people with dementia or a learning disability.
We are a people organisation and people matter to us. As part of the team, you’ll help support the health and wellbeing of the people who live and visit this beautiful part of the UK.
Over 4,000 people make up the Trust. This includes doctors, nurses, therapists, plus admin and support staff.
We work in people’s homes, in community clinics and bases. Some staff work from one of our 13 community hospitals. Our aspiration is to have great people, provide great care, be a great place to work and a great partner.
Approximately 568,000 people live here. A third of people who live in Cornwall are supported by acute hospital services in Devon. As a result, we also work closely with our partners in Devon. In the summer, and during other holidays lots of people choose to visit the area. This increase the numbers of people who use out services.
