Job overview

We are looking to recruit a motivated and compassionate Multidisciplinary Rehabilitation Technician to join our Stroke and Neurology Rehabilitation Service.

This is an excellent opportunity to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, supporting people with stroke and neurological conditions to maximise their independence and recovery.

The purpose of the post is to carry out skilled therapy interventions, as delegated by specialist occupational therapy and physiotherapy staff. Interventions will be delivered across a range of settings, including patients’ homes, hospital wards and community environments.

This job is currently only open to people who already work for the NHS in Cornwall or the Isles of Scilly.
We are committed to supporting our dedicated staff, so only current employees of the following organisations can apply:

  • Cornwall Foundation Trust
  • Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust
  • Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Integrated Care Board

If you do not currently work for one of these NHS organisations, your application will not be considered at this time.

Main duties of the job

Contribute to the assessment and treatment of patients supported by the Stroke and Neurology Rehabilitation Service. Deliver delegated therapy and rehabilitation programmes following professional assessment and guidance. Provide interventions relating to:
  • Mobility and transfers
  • Personal care and activities of daily living
  • Upper limb rehabilitation
  • Cognitive, visual, perceptual, communication and sensory rehabilitation
Encourage and motivate patients to take an active role in their rehabilitation, promoting independence, education and self‑management. Work as a lone practitioner within community and virtual settings, in line with lone working policies. Monitor patients’ responses to intervention, reporting progress and any problems to the therapy team. Provide assessments, order, issue, fit and demonstrate standard equipment, ensuring patients, carers and staff can use equipment safely and correctly. Communicate effectively with patients, relatives and carers, adapting communication style to individual needs. Work effectively as a member of the multidisciplinary team, respecting the contributions of others and representing the therapy profession appropriately at all times. Maintain accurate, comprehensive and up‑to‑date documentation in line with legal, professional and departmental requirements, using the organisation’s IT systems as required. Undertake general clerical and administrative tasks as required to support service delivery

Working for our organisation

We’re an NHS community and mental health provider Trust based in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.  We deliver community and hospital-based care to improve people’s physical and mental health.  We also provide specialist support to people with dementia or a learning disability.

We are a people organisation and people matter to us.  As part of the team, you’ll help support the health and wellbeing of the people who live and visit this beautiful part of the UK.

Over 5,000 people make up the Trust.  This includes doctors, nurses, therapists, plus admin and support staff.

We work in people’s homes, in community clinics and bases.  Some staff work from one of our 10 community hospitals.  Our aspiration is to have great people, provide great care, be a great place to work and a great partner.

Approximately 568,000 people live here.  A third of people who live in Cornwall are supported by acute hospital services in Devon.  As a result, we also work closely with our partners in Devon.  In the summer, and during other holidays lots of people choose to visit the area.  This increase the numbers of people who use out services.
