Job overview
A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join the Mental Health Support Teams (MHST) in Schools initiative delivering services across East Cornwall. MHST Cornwall is a thriving, expanding service and we welcome applications from experienced Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs), including those wishing to relocate.
Cornwall is a wonderful place to live and work, offering distinctive professional opportunities such as close partnership working with schools and local services, innovation in rural mental health, nature‑based therapies and the ability to make a visible difference in underserved communities. Cornwall offers an excellent work–life balance.
We are leading the way in integrating lifestyle medicine and nature‑based approaches into support for children, young people and staff wellbeing. As a children’s system, we are committed to inclusive, compassionate leadership and a culture that is fair, supportive and focused on continuous improvement and positive outcomes.
You will join a supportive team with regular supervision, CPD and team away days, with opportunities to develop and nurture your skills as a psychological professional delivering mental health support in schools.
We are recruiting two further qualified EMHPs to work across primary and secondary schools within the East Cornwall MHST, covering Liskeard, Looe, Saltash, Callington and Torpoint. Posts are permanent, expanding existing mental health provision across Cornwall’s education settings.
Main duties of the job
This post is open to newly qualified professionals and those returning to practice, and we welcome applications from individuals at the start of their career or re-entering the workforce. https://youtu.be/AAw8fv32fP8
You will work therapeutically with children & their families providing support and treatment Your role is highly valued and we are especially keen to recruit EMHP's who have experience working with primary aged children and their families, with a view to working with teenagers as we expand into secondary schools and colleges.
Your role will be key in increasing our workforce in Educational Mental Health Practitioners, to contribute to the early intervention agenda and support our attached schools in their responses to the mental health needs of primary school aged children in Cornwall.
Working for our organisation
We’re an NHS community and mental health provider Trust based in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We deliver community and hospital-based care to improve people’s physical and mental health. We also provide specialist support to people with dementia or a learning disability.
We are a people organisation and people matter to us. As part of the team, you’ll help support the health and wellbeing of the people who live and visit this beautiful part of the UK.
Over 5,000 people make up the Trust. This includes doctors, nurses, therapists, plus admin and support staff.
We work in people’s homes, in community clinics and bases. Some staff work from one of our 10 community hospitals. Our aspiration is to have great people, provide great care, be a great place to work and a great partner.
Approximately 568,000 people live here. A third of people who live in Cornwall are supported by acute hospital services in Devon. As a result, we also work closely with our partners in Devon. In the summer, and during other holidays lots of people choose to visit the area. This increase the numbers of people who use out services.
