Job overview

Ward Clerk - Acute Medical Unit

This is your chance to be part of an amazing ward team - where patient care is at the centre of everything we do. Do you want to make a difference to each patient’s experience of the NHS as they proceed through their journey? The Acute Medical Unit at the Royal Cornwall Hospital is recruiting now and we want you!

We are looking for a motivated, organised, friendly person who works well under pressure to join our team of ward. This role is to process admissions, transfers and discharges from the ward using the trust systems, while being flexible and adaptable to the needs of the ward.

If you enjoy working within a team and have great communication skills to deal with patients and their relatives, and the multi-disciplinary team then we would love to hear from you.

This is a full-time role for 37.5 hours per week (However part-time opportunities are also available) Please note this role is a 12.5 shift pattern including nights, weekends and bank holidays.

Main duties of the job

The Acute Medical Unit provides emergency medical care for patients  who are requiring admission under the expert care of our admitting emergency medical physicians within our trust. Medical Admissions is a 53 bedded unit that cares for a range of acutely ill patients requiring medical investigations and treatment in a fast-paced environment, with a turnover of 30-40 patients a day. We have a commitment to ensuring that every patients experience on admission is of the highest quality.  We require nurses who are energetic, forward thinking, flexible, self-motivated and who have care, compassion and courage at the core of their nursing vision.  We provide our patients with a true multi-disciplined team that can support our patients in their health needs with our own ward based therapy team.  An integral part of our team is our ward clerks who set off the experience as they meet and greet all new patients admitted to the ward under our care.
