This is a post to work as a member of the Breast Imaging Department at The Royal Cornwall Hospital NHS Trust, rated as Outstanding by the CQC.

 

This post forms part of a sustained development plan in Breast imaging to meet rising demand. The successful candidate will join a cohesive breast imaging team in a dedicated breast unit for symptomatic and screening services based at our Mermaid Centre - an outpatient unit dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of breast disease.

 

The successful candidate will be a GMC registered doctor and will have completed the RCR/ NBIA breast clinician training program with credentialling or demonstrate equivalent post graduate breast imaging qualifications along with relevant breast imaging experience. 

Main duties of the job

As an integral member of the breast care team, the successful candidate will be involved in:

  • Delivering screening and symptomatic breast imaging services including:
    • Interpretation of screening mammograms
    • New patient symptomatic clinics (including clinical and imaging assessment)
    • Screening assessment clinics
    • Intervention (predominantly image-guided intervention such as ultrasound and stereotactic guided core biopsy)
  • Undertaking clinical examinations and formulating diagnostic pathway plans
  • Participating in MDT meetings
  • Optimising patient management
  • Communicating with the multidisciplinary team
  • Undertaking audit and service improvement projects
  • Collaborating in research

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GMC registered doctor
  • Credential in breast disease management (NBIA, RCR), or; Postgraduate qualifications in mammography and breast ultrasound with relevant clinical experience
Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate medical qualification

Clinical Experience

Essential criteria
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
  • Ability to independently undertake all aspects of symptomatic breast work
  • Completed a minimum of 12 years’ medical work (either continuous period or in aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification of which a minimum of six years should have been in a relevant specialty in the Specialty Doctor and/or closed SAS grades - equivalent years’ experience in a relevant specialty from other medical grades including from overseas will also be accepted

  • Screening experience
  • Breast MRI

Other Experience

  • Experience of clinical audit
  • Experience of teaching clinical skills to radiology registrars / trainees
  • Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems
