We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 4 Assistant Practitioner in Paediatric Dietetics to join the  Children’s Community Therapy Service (CCTS) Dietetic Team.

The post holder will provide skilled support under the direction of a senior dietitian to children and young people with a physical or learning disability with eating and drinking difficulties. The post holder will also work closely with the team on the roll out of an innovative education and training programme for professionals working with selective eaters.

The purpose of this post will be to help with both clinical and administrative tasks which are all part of the child’s care. Training and support will be provided.

Main duties of the job

The Children’s Community Therapy Service is a specialist multidisciplinary team of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Dietitians, Support and Admin staff.

This role will involve the practitioner using excellent communication skills to work with children and young people and their families, groups, webinar and workshops, schools, communities and with carers across the age range from birth to 18 years old. The therapy will be delivered both virtually and face to face within the local community involving travel to various health, education and social care venues. The post holder will also support the dietitians to provide training to other professionals.

Person specification

Essential

Essential criteria
  • Good general standard of education (GCE/GCSE Level) including English and sciences
  • Training undertaken or intention to train to NVQ III or equivalent
  • Qualification in Information Technology to include Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to independently travel across Cornwall to other sites as required
  • To evidence an excellent level of verbal and non-verbal communication
Desirable criteria
  • Formal or informal training or in specialist therapy courses relevant to this post
  • A good level of experience of specialist therapy skills relevant to this post

Experience

Essential criteria
  • A good level of experience working with children in multi-professional and inter agency teams
  • Administrative responsibility of monitoring stock, and placing orders.
  • Experience of setting up and organising clinics. .
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of setting up and organising group therapy sessions

Practicle & Intelectual Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to plan and prioritise work load.
  • Awareness of limitations of scope of practice
  • Experience of team working and supporting colleagues
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in augmentative and alternative communication.
  • Counselling and motivational skills.
  • Training and facilitation of self help skills.
