That’s exactly what you get if you join the Critical Care Unit at the Royal Cornwall Hospital.
Our Critical Care is expanding from 15 to 19 beds, so we need to grow our team. We care for a broad range of critically ill adults and children, within a multitude of specialities. We look after both level 2 High Dependency patients and level 3 Intensive Care patients (HDU/ICU) We offer a friendly and supportive working environment where education is seen as a priority. We would like you to join our team to provide excellent, compassionate care to all our critically ill patients and their families. We have a wonderful multidisciplinary team (MDT) integrated within our unit encompassing research nurses, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, dieticians, and psychologists. Meaning we have a huge focus on rehabilitation after critical illness.
We are looking to recruit experienced and newly qualified Registered Nurse Associates.
Don’t worry if you haven’t got previous intensive care experience, as all nurses new to ICU will join our Introduction to Critical Care Course, which will provide you with the necessary skills to get you established as an intensive care nurse.

As a NMC registered practitioner, the Nursing Associate will work in a clinical field, with minimal supervision from and report to a Registered Nurse (Level 1) or regulated health and social care practitioner. They will deliver safe, compassionate and dignified patient centred health care. The Nursing Associate will be expected to prioritise their workload; implement evidence-based care; utilise relevant guidance, protocols, and policies (local and national); contribute to care planning and patient review. They will be responsible for completing any work based training and associated competency required by the role.
The post holder will deliver direct care. Recognising and taking responsibility and accountability for the way the care is delivered (as per registered practitioner guidelines). The Nursing Associate will be responsible for delegation of appropriate duties to staff whilst developing and supporting junior staff/student nurses.
The post holder will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to support and assist the patient’s healthcare journey. The Nursing Associate will be respectful, professional at all times and foster excellent communication skills.

- Nursing Associate foundation degree qualification
- GCSE Grade A-C in Maths & English or skills level 2 Maths & English or equivalent
Experience

- Ability to work effectively as a team player under appropriate supervision, and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Understanding of basic physiology, e.g. normal vital signs, fluid balance, etc.
- Experience of providing and receiving complex, sensitive information
- Understands and acts in line with NMC professional standards for practice contained within The Code
