Job overview
There is an exciting job opportunity for registered nurses on The Medical Day Unit as part of Specialist Services and Surgery Care Group.
MDU is a Planned Treatment Unit. Operating Monday-Friday working hours 07.00-19.30 hrs and we are looking to recruit a Registered Nurse.
Main duties of the job
The Medical Day Unit is within the division of Specialty Services and Surgery. The Unit is laid out with 11 spaces. Three cubicles with trolley beds and 8 reclining chairs in a treatment bay. The Unit provides care for a variety of patients from Rheumatology, Gastroenterology, Renal, Clinical Sciences, Neurology, Endocrinology, Dermatology Respiratory, Hepatology and supports Research and Development.
The Unit provides therapeutic and maintenance care for patients who are planned to attend for a variety of procedures including blood tests, diagnostic investigations, blood transfusion, infusions, including biologic infusion, biopsy, drains and breath tests.
We are looking to employ an enthusiastic and motivated registered nurse who will work to ensure that high quality, patient centred care is consistently provided and have the ‘I can do philosophy’ and have good time management skills.
Working on this unit will provide opportunities to develop new clinical skills of phlebotomy, cannulation and drug administration, professional knowledge It is an expectation to develop the clinical skill of cannulation within a month of employment.
MDU is a busy Unit with Registered Nurses only and therefore the successful individual will be required to be flexible within the role to cover all activities including administration, housekeeping, and filing during the patient’ time on the Unit.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Level 1 Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration / students pending registration
Desirable criteria
- Assessing & Mentoring qualification. Commitment to obtain assessing / mentoring qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- A minimum of six months experience in an acute Trust within the last twelve months (this can include student placement)
Desirable criteria
- Experience within the speciality
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Understanding of evidence based practice to enhance care
- Understanding of professional and current issues in nursing.
- Understanding of the importance of research and evidence based practice
Applicant requirements
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
