Trosolwg o'r swydd

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery treats all aspects of patients within this specialty and this post is an integral part of this. A population of approximately 400,000 is covered by the service leading to a varied and busy department workload. The specialty works closely with the adjacent departments of Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT), Dermatology and Ophthalmology and shares the department with an active Orthodontic Unit.

Outpatient Services and Day Ward Activities
Most out-patient and day case activity takes place in a purpose-built and dedicated out-patient department on the Royal Cornwall Hospital site in Truro which incorporate out-patient waiting areas, consultants’ offices, secretarial and clerical area, examination and treatment rooms, and nurses’ office.

OMFS clinics occur on most days, as do Day Case General Anaesthesia sessions, together with Minor Oral Surgery under Local Anaesthesia and Local Anaesthesia with IV Sedation.

Inpatient Services
Inpatients are managed on an 18-bed adult ward (Wheal Coates) adjacent to the Head and Neck theatre together with an adjacent Paediatric ward. These ward areas are shared with Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) and Ophthalmology.

Out-patient clinics and theatre sessions are also held at West Cornwall Hospital (Penzance) in the west of the county in addition to a newly built surgical centre (SASH) at St Austell.
